Floortherm Micro Perforated (MP) insulating membrane is a tough polythene membrane reinforced with nylon net that has been designed for use in timber, beam & block and solid floor applications.
Floortherm MP is available with a foil coating on one or both faces to suit different applications.
It can be used in new build and refurbishment applications and is ideal for upgrading existing properties as Floortherm can be fitted to individual rooms, removing the need to de-camp occupants.Benefits:
- Extremely cost effective solution.
- Micro perforations allow water vapour to dissipate.
- Simple & clean installation.
- Zero ODP and Zero GWP
R-value of Floortherm MP and a single cavity to face:
25mm Cavity = 0.80m2K/W*
50mm Cavity = 1.32m2K/W*
Foil Emissivity: 0.05
*values shown are for downward heat flow in non-ventilated cavities.
In new build applications or where the structural floor deck is being replaced Floortherm MP can be draped over the joists, creating Low Emissive air spaces above and below the membrane. Top Hat Clips are available to recess the Floortherm over the joists and create minimum 25mm or 50mm Low E air spaces. Where the existing structural deck is being retained Floortherm MP can be laid over this deck and battens used to create a floating floor with a Low Emissive air space above the membrane. Alternatively, the battens can be laid first and the Floortherm fitted over them. This allows Top Hat clips to be used to position the membrane in the centre of the air space providing a better thermal performance.Solid Floors
Floortherm MP can be laid over a solid floor and a battened floating floor used to create a Low Emissive air space above the membrane. Alternatively, the battens can be laid first and the Floortherm fitted over them. This allows Top Hat clips to be used to position the membrane in the centre of the air space giving a better thermal performance.Beam & Block Floors
In a new build Beam & Block floor construction the Floortherm MP is installed over the whole floor area suspended from the inner leaf of the external wall below beam level. The membrane is held in place using Floortherm Clips. While it can achieve U-values of 0.25W/m2K on its own, the addition of Floortherm MP can also significantly reduce the amount rigid insulation required to achieve very low U-values in this type of construction. In many cases 1 brick course can be saved from construction depths providing very significant cost savings.
Floortherm MP is a versatile micro perforated insulating membrane that can be used in many types of ground floor construction. A polythene membrane with a foil coating to one or both faces, Floortherm MP insulates by creating low emissive air spaces. It is reinforced with a nylon net, providing added strength and preventing the membrane from tearing. The micro perforations allow any water vapour to dissipate through the membrane and also allow timber joists to ‘breathe’. This means that Floortherm MP can be used in timber floor constructions without detriment to the joists. A cost effective solution, Floortherm MP is significantly cheaper than the equivalent PUR, PIR and Phenolic board insulations providing the same thermal performance. Floortherm MP has excellent environmental credentials. It has a Global Warming Potential of Zero and an Ozone Depletion Potential of Zero. No CFCs, HFCs or HCFCs are used in the production of Floortherm MP.
