Alreflex Cold Break is part of the Alreflex group of products; it is a bubble foil type insulation with a foil coating to one or both faces. Cold Break is designed to reduce cold bridging in detailing areas and can also be used as a vertical DCP.

Alreflex Cold Break is ideal for insulating areas with reduced cavities, such as around steel work, wind posts, meter boxes etc. A 20mm air void is usually required to one face of the Cold Break to avoid a condensation risk. As a flexible insulation Alreflex Cold Break is simple to install in complex detailing areas and in curved structures, where it is not practical to use rigid board type insulations. Alreflex Cold Break can also be used in a dual function around windows and doors, as a waterproof layer preventing water ingress and to help increase the thermal resistance and reduce cold bridging.

Cold bridging is the term used to describe an area of a buildings envelope where a product (or products) with poor insulating properties passes through the external element. This creates a path of low thermal resistance allowing cold external temperatures to be transferred through the construction, reducing the temperature of internal surfaces. This creates a high risk of condensation forming on these cold areas.

The correct design of these areas can reduce and eliminate cold bridges and their associated problems. The evolution of UK building regulations in recent years has seen an attempted to do this by implementing minimum design criteria in areas that are most susceptible to cold bridging.

These products can achieve and exceed the minimum insulation requirements set out in the Accredited Construction Details and are ideally suited to common cold bridge areas that are not covered in the Accredited Construction Details, such as steel work in cavities, wind posts and at the edge of ground bearing slabs.
