The Raftertherm insulation system for non-ventilated roofs is an LABC approved solution and is available in standard sizes that are designed to meet or exceed building regulation requirements. It is designed for use in warm roof constructions, where the insulation is situated in the pitch of the roof.

New Build

The new build Raftertherm system is for non-ventilated roofs. It incorporates a low E vapour permeable tiling membrane over the rafters such as Tyvek Enercore, Raftertherm Type S boards between the rafters and Raftertherm Type A boards below the rafters, which utilise the Alreflex foil as a high performance vapour barrier to the underside. This combination allows any existing water vapour trapped within the roof structure to dissipate while preventing any new water vapour from habitable areas entering the structure from below. This means that the 50mm ventilation cavity that is usually required in a ventilated roof structure between insulation and sarking can be reduced with no risk of interstitial condensation.

Refurbishment

The refurbishment Raftertherm system is for non-ventilated roofs. It allows the existing roof covering to be maintained over the rafters. It incorporates two layers of Raftertherm Type A boards. The first is situated between the rafters with the Alreflex foil face up and the second below the rafters with the Alreflex foil facing down, sealed as a vapour barrier. This increases thermal performance by creating Low E cavities to each side of the insulation boards. A cost effective solution, the Raftertherm system constructions are up to 30% cheaper than the equivalent PUR, PIR and Phenolic board solutions that provide the same thermal performance.

The Raftertherm Board Type S is a graphite enhanced EPS insulation board. These boards are designed to be fitted tightly between and flush to the underside of the rafters.

The Raftertherm Board Type A is a graphite enhanced EPS insulation board with the Alreflex 1L1 bubble foil insulation bonded to one face. These boards are designed to be fitted below the rafters with the Alreflex foil facing down into the dwelling and, in refurbishment constructions, between the rafters with foil facing up out of the dwelling. This low emissive surface provides the dual function of increasing thermal performance and when sealed is a highly effective vapour barrier.

With a BRE Green Guide A+ rating Raftertherm insulation boards have excellent environmental credentials. They have a Global Warming Potential of less than 5 and an Ozone Depletion Potential of Zero. No CFCs, HFCs or HCFCs are used in the production of Raftertherm insulation boards.

Raftertherm Brackets allow 50mm x 25mm battens or metal channels to be fitted below the Raftertherm Board Type A layer with minimal cold bridging.
